The New Zealand Footwear Industry Association and Composite Retail Group have collaborated in producing a

 
FOOTWEAR RETAIL MANUAL.

An A4 size ring binder has over 50 pages  of information designed to assist retail staff become more knowledgeable about their products, and more expert in the art of fitting customers with suitable footwear. This manual has been designed to accommodate additional material as it comes to hand.

Programme of Tariff Reduction

The following programme of tariff reduction has been  announced by the NZ Government to commence on 7th. July 2006.

  1. All alternative specific tariffs are eliminated on 1 July 2005;
  2. Ad valorem tariffs that are between 17 and 19 per cent are simplified to 17 per cent on 1 July 2006, then reduced to 15 per cent on 1 July 2007, and then to 12.5 per cent on 1 July 2008, and to 10 per cent on 1 July 2009;
  3. Ad valorem tariffs that are between 10 and 12.5 per cent are simplified to 10 per cent on 1 July 2006, then reduced to 7.5 per cent on 1 July 2007, and then to 5 per cent on 1 July 2008, and then are maintained at that rate until 1 July 2009;
  4. Ad valorem tariffs that are between 5 and 7.5 per cent are simplified to 5 per cent on 1 July 2008 and then are maintained at that rate until 1 July 2009;

AUSTRALIAN TARIFF DECISION

The Australian Government has announced that tariff reductions on textiles, clothing, and footwear will halt for five years to assist the industry compete against low cost imports.

Tariffs will stop at 10% for cotton sheeting, woven fabrics, carpets, and footwear and 7.5% for sleeping bags, table linen, and some footwear parts between 2005 and 2009. 

From 2010 all these tariffs will be reduced to 5%.
